With the LAME MP3 encoding test that found a power difference for the Ivy Bridge laptop, it was harder to decipher with this more powerful Core i7 4790K system. With Linux 3.14 the average power draw was 60 Watts, with Linux 3.15 it dropped to 55 Watts, with Linux 3.16 it raised to 61 Watts, and with Linux 3.17 Git it was at 56 Watts. The peak and minimum power use was similar across the tested kernels.

The idle power consumption for the Devil's Canyon desktop system was indifferent across the tested kernels with frame-buffer compression showing no power consumption difference.
