Intel Atom Bay Trail NUC Kit On Linux

In the end the sweet spot that ended up being used for the initial testing was the Linux 3.14 development kernel and the latest Git packages for Mesa, xf86-video-intel, etc. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS when released in April should be in great shape for this new Intel NUC Kit.

A full run-down of Ubuntu Linux benchmarks (and other distributions) from the DN2820FYK will begin next week as we're finally able to test Intel's Bay Trail Atom performance closely with this excellent, low-cost system. Today's article was just for sharing these early details for those interested in this very small barebones system that sells for just $130 USD. Overall I'm very excited about the possibilities of this NUC and am glad to see it's Linux-friendly (when using modern enough code) and should offer competitive performance considering under load it's only drawing about ~10 Watts. The results beginning next week will include power draw and performance-per-Watt numbers and against other x86/ARM systems.
