Java's OpenGL pipeline was also benchmarked for some Windows vs. Linux comparisons. Windows 10 was outperforming even the new Iris driver, but with a narrower margin. The Iris driver on this Whiskey Lake laptop came out as 39% faster in the text rendering performance than the default i965 driver. The Windows 10 OpenGL driver meanwhile was 19% faster still in this particular benchmark.

With the Java OpenGL image rendering and vector rendering test cases, Linux came out ahead but interestingly the i965 driver performance here was better than Iris as well.

With the synthetic OpenGL cross-platform benchmarks via GpuTest, Iris did pick up a few more wins over the i965 Mesa driver and was closing the gap in some of those with the Intel Windows OpenGL performance.
