The Current Intel "Iris" Gallium3D OpenGL Performance Against i965 Mesa, Windows 10 OpenGL

First up was OpenArena, the very basic ioquake3 game that has served for basic GL2 era testing for more than the past decade and has roughly similar performance abilities between the Windows and Linux builds. In the case of this game at 1080p on the Whiskey Lake laptop, the default "i965" driver was already significantly faster than the Intel Windows 10 OpenGL driver but with the Iris driver the performance has nearly doubled compared to that classic driver. Though before getting too excited, this is one of the very rare exceptions where the Iris performance is so much better in a real (albeit open-source and old) game.

With the Xonotic first person shooter game, which is much more demanding than OpenArena, the Windows 10 performance outperforms Linux. But at least the Iris driver is noticeably faster than the current i965 default driver.

The Dota 2 OpenGL performance was similar between the scenarios tested.

The aging Portal game meanwhile was the fastest on Windows and is currently the slowest when using the Iris driver.
