Intel Core i5 14600K & Intel Core i9 14900K Linux Benchmarks

First up are a few of the graphics/gaming tests under Linux with these different Intel and AMD desktop processors.

3DMark Wild Life Extreme benchmark with settings of Resolution: 1920 x 1080. Core i9 14900K was the fastest.
Unigine Superposition benchmark with settings of Resolution: 1920 x 1080, Mode: Fullscreen, Quality: Low, Renderer: OpenGL. Ryzen 7 7700X was the fastest.
Unigine Superposition benchmark with settings of Resolution: 1920 x 1080, Mode: Fullscreen, Quality: Medium, Renderer: OpenGL. Ryzen 5 7600X was the fastest.
Unvanquished benchmark with settings of Resolution: 1920 x 1080, Effects Quality: Ultra. Core i9 14900K was the fastest.
Xonotic benchmark with settings of Resolution: 3840 x 2160, Effects Quality: Ultimate. Core i9 14900K was the fastest.

To no surprise given the already good Linux gaming performance of Rocket Lake, the new Intel Core CPUs were competitive and typically leading for graphics/gaming workloads on Linux thanks to their high clock speeds. Linux gaming doesn't tend to benefit much from the AMD 3D V-Cache besides a few select games. At first Intel Rocket Lake CPUs on Linux struggled a bit but then Intel software engineers were able to better optimize the Linux kernel for the hybrid topology and work out some of the other kinks in the scheduler and elsewhere in the kernel. So as it stands right now with recent versions of the Linux kernel, the Intel 13th and 14th Gen Core CPUs are great contenders for Linux gaming systems if solely focused on graphics/gaming. The Core i5 14600K and Core i9 14900K came out slightly ahead of their predecessors here thanks to the higher clock frequencies.

During these benchmarks the i5-14600K and i9-14900K had similar power consumption to their predecessors.

Let's move on though to looking at the broader spectrum of Linux workloads outside of gaming where it becomes a much more competitive and interesting battle between Intel and AMD.
