Running Fedora 20 On Intel's Core i7 Haswell-E Platform
There wasn't much change with the timed Linux kernel compilation between Fedora and Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 14.04 -- again likely due to the Linux 3.17 kernel manual upgrade (in another article I'll do stock tests) and its defaulting to the performance governor -- is likely why Canonical's OS was doing better in this test run against Fedora 20.
The same goes for FFmpeg
That's the short story about Fedora 20 on the Haswell-E platform with Intel Core i7 5960X processor with X99 motherboard. Fedora 20 can run on this high-end Intel platform but installing all stable release updates is definitely warranted. Coming up in the days ahead will be a more focused Linux distribution comparison with all stock packages on each OS as we see which Linux distributions are running the fastest on this $1000+ processor.
