Real World Benchmarks Of The EXT4 File-System
When increasing the file-size from 4GB to 8GB, we had experienced very similar results between our sequential create tests. EXT4 was in first followed by XFS, EXT3, and ReiserFS in last.
While the sequential create tests were similar between 4GB and 8GB, XFS had lost its advantage in sequential reads at 8GB. EXT4 was able to take first in this test with XFS falling behind by about 20%. EXT3 and ReiserFS were still left far behind.
Turning to IOzone in the Phoronix Test Suite, EXT4 had exhibited the best write performance at 4GB. On our Western Digital SATA drive, IOzone reported a write speed of 57.70MB/s, XFS at 52.27MB/s, EXT3 at 34.31MB/s, and ReiserFS at 30.42MB/s.
