The Intel X38 Chipset is cooled by the copper ASUS heatsink that connects the heatpipe leading from the ICH9R and is then separated at the Northbridge into two separate heatpipes. One of these heatpipes led to the power regulation circuitry behind the CPU socket while the other ends at the top of the motherboard with another fin-array heatsink above additional circuitry. This cooling solution is positioned far enough away from the LGA-775 socket area that it shouldn't cause any compatibility problems with after-market heatsinks or waterblocks.

The ASUS P5E64 WS Professional supports up to and including the latest Intel Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Extreme, and Core 2 Duo processors. This does include 45nm processors and those using a 1600MHz FSB. In the upper corner of the CPU socket area near the I/O panel is the 4/8-pin power connector.

At the I/O panel area are two PS/2, two eSATA 2.0 (External SATA), one IEEE-1394a Firewire, two Gigabit Ethernet, six USB 2.0, and ports for 8-channel audio.
