Once the demo, or full version, of TransGaming Cedega is downloaded and the installer is launched, it will prompt for the installation path as well as the binary path and the startup menu entries. After the installation is complete, if you do not presently have a Cedega subscription, you will be prompted to register for the full version or the 14-day trial. In the event of the trial subscription, it will prompt you for your name, email address, and country. Optionally, it also asks for city and operating system/Linux distribution. Once the fields are properly filled in, an email will be sent to the supplied address, which will contain the time demo key.

After the installation and activation are complete, the Cedega Setup Wizard will appear. This wizard prompts for the TransGamer account and password (if applicable) as well as any HTTP proxy settings. Once that has been completed, the system tests page appears which attempts to check the system for support with OpenGL direct rendering, 3D acceleration, POSIX Threads, copy protection, OSS sound, and ALSA sound. These tests will ensure the various Windows games can be experienced to the fullest extent possible. After completing the wizard, the Cedega program will finally appear.

When launching Cedega, there are buttons to play a specific game, stop the operation, install game, mount CD/DVD, vote, and display the game database. Outside of these main buttons, there are a few notable options in the menus. One of the important areas inside of the Cedega interface is the configuration profile manager. Editing these profiles allow the configuration of general, audio, graphics, and joystick options. Some of the items include the Windows version to emulate from Windows 95 to Windows XP (including Windows ME), TransGaming HUD for frame-rate and memory usage, ALSA/OSS audio devices, graphics quality options, and appending joystick controls. The game installation is quite simple, all that is required is to hit install and then to enter the program title as well as install path (or mount the DVD/CD) and under advanced are other options for configuring the device. In most instances, the game (and its installer) should run flawlessly with no other modifications required.
