Windows 10 vs. Eight Linux Distributions On The Threadripper 3970X

With the Crafty multi-threaded chess benchmark, Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise were performing about the same and was roughly tied with the slowest Linux distributions while for this test case Fedora Workstation and CentOS Stream were coming out slightly ahead of the rest.

Similarly, in the TSCP chess benchmark Windows 10 was on pace with the slowest Linux distributions tested.

When running the John The Ripper password cracker with the Blowfish algorithm, Windows 10's performance was coming in between the slowest and fastest Linux distributions being benchmarked.

When testing the MD5 performance with John The Ripper, Windows 10 pulled back and the only distribution yielding slower performance was the Ubuntu 20.04 daily development snapshot.

Windows 10 was running well with 1080p video decoding using dav1d with only CentOS Stream and Clear Linux running faster.

But with 4K content, Windows 10 was running slower relative to the other Linux distributions tested.
