Phoronix Test Suite 3.0 "Iveland" Alpha 1
For those that don't subscribe to the Phoronix Test Suite mailing list, there is a new announcement: Phoronix Test Suite 3.0 "Iveland" Alpha 1 has been released.
The first alpha release of Phoronix Test Suite 3.0 "Iveland" is now available for testing. This release comes after about three months of solid development on Iveland and there's about two or three more months of development left before Phoronix Test Suite 3.0 will officially see the light of day. Iveland Alpha 1 incorporates most of the internal pts-core restructuring changes needed to support OpenBenchmarking.org and other new PTS3 capabilities. With this alpha release there is also some restructuring of test profiles that breaks compatibility with existing PTS1/PTS2 test profiles, but all in-tree test profiles have been updated to reflect these changes. There may also be another break again before the final Phoronix Test Suite 3.0 release, but all in-tree/OpenBenchmarking.org test profiles will get the updates freely.
For those unfamiliar with the OpenBenchmarking.org initiative as part of Phoronix Test Suite 3.0, see: //www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=15360. This work is not integrated into the first alpha but should come in the next development release or two.
This first alpha release also incorporates the new graphing capabilities: //www.phoronix.com/news/ODcwNw.
Most of the changes to be found in Phoronix Test Suite 3.0 Alpha 1 are internal, but there is a few new end-user options at the request of some of the Phoronix Test Suite enterprise users, the defaulting to the SVG renderer by default over PNG, an NGINX web-server test profile, and various other changed bits: //www.phoronix.com/news/ODc0MA.
Phoronix Test Suite 3.0 Alpha 1 is not meant for use in a production environment [outside of Phoronix Media or without asking us for advice on particular deployments] as there still is quite a lot of work going on for Iveland and a number of more development/test releases arriving in the coming weeks. This release is primarily targeted in those looking to help with Iveland, work on new test profiles, or test committed new features, etc. The final release will come in January/February of 2011.
