AMD EPYC 7F72 vs. Intel Xeon Gold 6258R - Latest EPYC Rome vs. Xeon Cascade Lake Benchmarks

First up with the HPCG performance, the EPYC 7F72 2P performance was just behind the EPYC 7F52 with its higher cache-per-core and the higher-tier EPYC 7742 and 7532 processors. The Xeon Gold 6258R performance was aligned with the Xeon Platinum 8280 but behind the EPYC 7F72 and similar Rome parts.

With the NAMD performance the Xeon Gold 6258R in 1P and 2P configurations was faster than the EPYC 7F72, to little surprise considering the four extra cores / eight threads over the 24-core EPYC 7F72.

Meanwhile the EPYC Rome line-up remains incredibly strong with the MrBayes molecular biology software package with the 7Fx2 high frequency parts leading the race.

But when it comes to LAMMPS molecular dynamics, the Xeon Cascade Lake processors captured all of the attention thanks to their AVX-512 capabilities.
