For AES-256 performance measured by the single-threaded Nettle benchmark, the Cascade Lake processors came out offering faster performance than the Xen 2 server CPUs.

But when testing the SHA-512 algorithm with Nettle, the EPYC 7Fx2 parts are able to come out ahead of all the Xeon parts tested aside from the Xeon Gold 6250. The Xeon Gold 6258R performance remained in line with the Xeon Platinum 8280.

For John The Ripper with Blowfish, the Xeon Gold 6258R 2P performance was aligned with the dual EPYC 7532 32-core CPUs for this highly-threaded benchmark.

But for MD5 hashing with John The Ripper, the EPYC 7F72 performance came out ahead of the Xeon Gold 6258R in both single and dual socket configurations.
