AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Linux Performance

For the last of today's Ryzen 7 5800X tests is a look at the Linux gaming performance paired with the Radeon RX 5700 XT.

Not only was the Ryzen 7 5800X coming out ahead of the Core i9 10900K in various heavy Linux workloads, but even for gaming with a mix of native Linux game ports as well as titles emulated via Steam Play with DXVK, the Ryzen 7 5800X was out in front of the i9-10900K and a nice upgrade over the Zen 2 processors. For those wanting to spend less than $500 USD on a desktop CPU, the Ryzen 7 5800X is a strong offering and about $100 USD less than the Ryzen 9 5900X and generally came out faster than the Core i9 10900K CPU except for workloads that were making full use of the 10900K's 10 cores plus Hyper Theading. Aside from the belated Znver3 compiler support if wanting to spin your own optimized software builds, the temperature monitoring not coming until Linux 5.10, and no amd_energy driver support yet, the Ryzen 5000 series Linux desktop support is in good standing with 2020 Linux distributions like Fedora 33 and Ubuntu 20.04/20.10 and more.

Now that the initial AMD Ryzen 5600X/5800X/5900X/5950X Linux benchmarks are out there, articles in the coming days and weeks will be looking at the cross-distribution performance and other areas of Linux/open-source performance.
