Ubuntu 11.04 Boot Performance Compared To Past Releases

With the Samsung NC10, the Atom N270 netbook with a 32GB OCZ solid-state drive, the boot time reported from Bootchart for 11.04 Beta 2 was worse than in 10.10. The boot time fell from 20 seconds to 25 seconds. The best was in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS where the time was at 18 seconds, which is much better than the 54 seconds found in Ubuntu 9.10. At least in Ubuntu 11.04 the OCZ SSD the maximum disk throughput is the greatest at 100 MB/s.

9.10: 54 seconds / 45 MB/s
10.04: 18 seconds / 63 MB/s
10.10: 20 seconds / 87 MB/s
11.04: 25 seconds / 100 MB/s
