When using only two MSAA visual samples for improving the render quality on the Radeon HD 6950 on R600g, the performance was minimally affected. The biggest change in performance for the Doom 3 1080p test was going from 4x to 6x MSAA when the performance dropped from 80 to 61 FPS. At least though for this high-end AMD graphics card 6x MSAA was still enough to deliver an above-60 FPS average at 1920 x 1080.

With OpenArena when going from no anti-aliasing to 6x MSAA, the performance dropped by about 40%. Meanwhile if using the AMD Catalyst Linux driver there's many more anti-aliasing and other image quality enhancement options while generally delivering superior Radeon graphics performance.
