Radeon vs. Nouveau Gallium3D Driver Performance On Mesa 11.2-dev, Linux 4.5
With Counter-Strike: Global Offensive at 4K, only the GTX 680 was fast enough when re-clocked on the Nouveau driver to deliver playable frame-rates. On the open-source red side, the R9 290 was performing the best.
With DiRT Showdown, none of the cards on Nouveau were able to deliver above 30 FPS at 1080p. Meanwhile, the R9 290 and R7 370 were running sufficiently for this racing game on Steam for Linux.
With the very basic OpenArena game, the re-clocked Kepler GPUs obviously run fine while the Fermi hardware does not. The R9 285 also does not out-of-the-box due to the PowerPlay state in Linux 4.5. Interestingly, the re-clocked GTX 680 was running right in line with the R9 290 for this open-source driver showdown.
