An Early Look At Linux 4.16 Performance On Five Systems
The Java performance wasn't impacted by the move to Linux 4.16.
With the NGINX and Apache web-servers, which also were hit by slowdowns on Linux 4.15 with the Retpoline and KPTI landing, saw some no to little performance improvements by Linux 4.16 at this stage. With the LinuxBenchmarking.com systems as shown at the beginning of this article, several of those systems are currently seeing slower web server performance on Linux 4.16 so it's likely some CPU/storage combination regressing in select configurations.
The Schbench Linux kernel scheduler synthetic benchmark saw no real change in performance with Linux 4.16.
For the most part with this initial testing of Linux 4.16-rc1 on five different systems, the performance for the most part appears similar to Linux 4.15 stable but there are select cases where there were performance improvements and also a few regressions, at least at this stage of the Linux 4.16 kernel cycle. Stay tuned to Phoronix for more benchmarks on Phoronix in the days and weeks ahead.
