With most of the CPU tests, as usual, the kernel upgrade doesn't have a big impact on the performance. But one could have hoped that Linux 4.16 might have been slightly faster with any performance improvements around the Spectre/Meltdown mitigation that hit hard last month.

With PostgreSQL, the Core i9 7980XE system is much faster with Linux 4.16 than 4.15. The Core i7 6800K is also seeing a smaller but measurable performance improvement too with Linux 4.16. But in both tests the Xeon E3-1280 v5 took a noticeable performance hit while the other systems were largely unchanged.
