The only difference with Furmark was the lower RX 480 performance on DRM-Next.

GpuTest's Triangle test was the most interesting metric of today's benchmarking and it shows all graphics cards performing much lower with DRM-Next (while the RX 480 hung on this test during my 4.8 run).

With the demanding Unigine Valley benchmark, the R9 Fury hung on the DRM-Next code consistently whiel running this demanding benchmark.

It seems there's still a lot of bug fixing to happen for the AMDGPU/Radeon code that's being queued for Linux 4.9. Stay tuned for more benchmarks as Linux 4.9 development progresses and the official release is in sight around the end of the calendar year. At least there's some new features coming for this kernel release. Also stay tuned for the experimental Southern Islands benchmarks on AMDGPU, among other interesting Linux benchmarks in October.
