With the upgrade from the GCC 4.8.5 compiler on openSUSE Leap 42.3 to GCC 7.2.1 on openSUSE Leap 15.0 Beta provides for a measurable speed boost in many built-from-source CPU benchmarks when testing on newer hardware that benefits from GCC optimizations the past few years for newer CPUs as well as general optimizations. The move from Linux 4.4 LTS to Linux 4.12~4.14 is also beneficial for some workloads.

But as you can see while openSUSE Leap 15.0 beta is faster than 42.3 in a number of the tests, Intel's performance-optimized Clear Linux 20610 tended to be the front-runner followed and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS also had a strong showing against openSUSE in some of the benchmarks.
