Intel Ivy Bridge Optimization Benchmarks On GCC 4.8
Our latest benchmarks of the new GCC 4.8 compiler involve running through the CPU optimizations for the latest-generation Intel "Ivy Bridge" processors.
There have already been some Ivy Bridge benchmarks on GCC 4.8 that compared the performance to GCC 4.7 while the benchmarks in this article are to simply provide the public some new reference benchmark values when testing the different -march= compiler optimizations of the new GNU Compiler Collection.
The tested values of -march= as set by the CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS environment variables during testing were nocona, core2, corei7, corei7-avx, and core-avx-i. For those wondering what these values imply, see the GCC documentation.
Testing happened from an ASUS Ultrabook with an Intel Core i3 3217U. Benchmarks in full and other hardware/software details can be found on OpenBenchmarking.org within 1303261-FO-GCC48INTE71.
Overall, the results aren't too different from GCC tests we did one year ago with Ivy Bridge on the older compiler release.
