ACPI CPUfreq vs. Intel P-State Scaling With Linux 3.15
When returning to CPU-bound tasks, GraphicsMagick was running nearly the same speed across the board except for the default Intel P-State driver with performance governor being slightly slower than the rest.
As with the other CPU tests shared, the Intel P-State Performance configuration was a little slower but it was also consuming less energy.
When timing the compilation of the Linux kernel with these different CPU scaling settings, there was a huge difference. The Intel P-State Performance configuration led to the best results that were timed the same as ACPI CPUfreq with the on-demand governor while the other configurations were about twice as slow!
With the fastest configurations where they were twice as fast, the energy consumption was up by just about 22%.
