Running the dav1d open-source AV1 video decoder on these low-end parts were interesting. Even the Ryzen 3 CPUs and old Intel/AMD CPUs can deliver capable processor-based AV1 decoding with this VideoLAN project. The Ryzen 3 3300X tended to come out ahead of the Core i5 9400F and for reference purposes also came out ahead of the Core i7 7700K back when 4c/8t was considered high-end for Intel. The Ryzen 3 3100 tended to come in similar or just below the Core i5 8400/9400F for this modern video decode test while being much faster than the likes of the once competitive Core i7 4770K Haswell CPU.

In the case of H.264 and H.265 video encoding, the Ryzen 3 3100/3300X were just a few frames behind the Core i5 9400F.
