13-Way NVIDIA VDPAU Video Decode Benchmarks
With tests like 1280x720 MPEG decoding not being too demanding, the results aren't really interesting with much in the way of performance changes except between some of the GPU generations. Past Phoronix testing has shown that HD video playback can be smooth under Linux even with a $20 CPU paired with a $30 NVIDIA GPU.
At least the video capabilities and feature sets have been improved between generations. For a look at the feature-sets between NVIDIA GPUs, there's documentation on Wikipedia. Frankly the new/improved features and capabilities are more interesting than any performance changes with even low-end GPUs doing good enough for handling decoding HD video content with PureVideo via VDPAU.
If you want to see how qVDPAUtest runs on your system, install the Phoronix Test Suite and run phoronix-test-suite benchmark qvdpautest from a supported VDPAU-enabled system or run phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1311259-SO-NVIDIAGEF39 to compare your system's video acceleration performance directly side-by-side to the results about to be shown in this article.
