It has been announced on the
kde-core-devel mailing list that KDE 4.0 has been delayed by two months. KDE 4.0 was originally scheduled for release towards the end of October, but now it won't make it out until at least December 20. This two month delay will, however, allow for two additional KDE 4.0 beta releases. This delay has been attributed to "crucial elements of the release that need more development time." KDE 4.0 Beta 3 is now scheduled for release on September 24 while the fourth beta will come out on October 22. There are two release candidates as well -- KDE 4.0 RC1 on November 21 and KDE 4.0 RC2 on December 5. The new release schedule can be found at
KDE.org. If you haven't yet tried out any of the KDE 4.0 test releases, we have screenshots available of
KDE 4.0 Beta 1. As long as there are no further delays, KDE 4.0 will make it out this year and just in time for the holidays.
