Wayland-Based Green Island Compositor Sees Release
The Green Island Wayland-based compositor that's part of the experimental Qt5-based Hawaii Desktop has been updated to version 0.1.91 after seeing a number of changes that morphs it from its original design.
My last status update on Hawaii / Green Island was nearly one month ago. The Qt5 Hawaii desktop has seen a fair amount of work but the Green Island compositor hadn't been too active in development although it's been in development for one year. As a result, I was a bit surprised to see Green Island 0.1.91 released this weekend.
Green Island has morphed from being a Wayland compositor itself to more along the lines of being a support library for other Qt-based Wayland compositors to be easier; in turn Green island is based upon QtCompositor and depends upon Qt 5.2. Wayland 1.2 works with Green Island but sadly not the Wayland 1.3 code-base yet. So long story short, there isn't too much to get excited about as Green Island isn't shining as its own compositor and the Hawaii desktop will still need to be run on the reference Wayland Weston compositor for now.
More details on Green Island can be found from its GitHub repository.
