GNU Hurd 0.5, GNU Mach 1.4 Released
In celebration of the GNU project's 30th birthday, GNU Hurd 0.5 has been released along with GNU MIG 1.4 and GNU Mach 1.4.
Hurd, the GNU's alternative to other Linux/Unix kernels, is still 32-bit only with version 0.5 while a 64-bit port is still in progress. The previous release of Hurd was version 0.2 and it came sixteen years ago. Thus since the last release there's been a hell of a lot of changes.
The GNU Hurd 0.5 announcement can be read here.
GNU Mach 1.4 was also released today as the latest version of the microkernel upon which GNU Hurd is based. Mach 1.4 is the first release in 11 years since the 1.3 release. Details on GNU Mach 1.4 can be found from its mailing list announcement.
Joining the Mach 1.4 release was the GNU MIG 1.4 release (the release announcement). The Mach Interface Generator translates RPC definition files to C code.
