Slackware 14.1 Goes Into Beta, Brings New Packages
The first beta of the unexpected Slackware 14.1 Linux distribution is now available.
Slackware 14.0 was released at the end of September of last year and now 14.1 is close to being done. Slackware 14.1 has actually been of beta quality for some time, according to the release notes, "I'm calling this a beta! Really, it's been better than beta quality for a while. There will probably still be a few more updates here and there (and certainly updates to the docs). Enjoy, and please test."
Slackware 14.1 pulls in the Linux 3.10 kernel, GRUB 2, KDE 4.10.5, and is using GCC 4.8.1 as its compiler. The Mesa version is sadly at 9.1.6 rather than 9.2.0 for having the latest and greatest open-source graphics drivers.
More details on the Slackware 14.1 beta packages can be found via the change-log.
