ATI X.Org Driver Sees Significant Update
The last time there was an official release of the xf86-video-ati DDX driver was back in May, but this morning Michel Dänzer has announced a new version.
While there is about six months of work into the xf86-video-ati driver development, only the minor version number was bumped today even though there is a fair number of changes.
Among the work in this new version, xf86-video-ati 6.14.3, is support for new ASICs (such as Fusion Llano APUs), KMS page-flipping fixes, VDPAU/XvMC support for R300 GPUs ane newer on Gallium3D, and tiling fixes. Tiling is also now enabled on more graphics hardware by default.
In total there are more than three dozen changes in this ATI X.Org driver release. Most of the interesting work happens within the Radeon kernel DRM and Gallium3D components these days, but the DDX changes in this release are worthwhile due to the expanded Radeon/FirePro support, VDPAU/XvMC support, page-flipping fixes, and tiling work is all noteworthy.
