They may have underestimated the effort to create a phone from scratch without the necessary know-how, however this is the most promising "pure" Linux phone we have seen so far, they are also building a ecosystem around it which is not secondary in terms of importance. This may be the corner stone to get rid off for ever of any crappy Android-like OSes that exist just to spy on you...

brent Purism is a social purpose company. And you hate them for doing what NO ONE ELSE have done before.

      You are the choosing beggar+600USD.

I don't hate them, but they are quite frankly doing a bad job. They've been overpromising and underdelivering from the very start of the Librem 5 project. The marketing is dishonest ("shipping adjustments", this paper launch, etc.) and they have very little else to show. Apart from a few tinkerer nerds, most people that preordered actually expect a working phone. And they won't get it, at least not any time soon. This will unfortunately all get back to Purism and it will be hard for them to recover.

Exactly. We should give them a little more time to ensure the build quality will be consistent and the model final.

You must be naive if you think that this company truly cares about privacy, instead of robbing you blind selling you buggy, insecure and very far from privacy protecting snake oil.

Purisms target audience are gullible autists who will gobble up any supposed ""privacy"" snake oil.

"Dishonest" may be overstating the case. But Purism's announcement feels like a student trying to talk their way out of an Incomplete on a project, rather than a professional response to the difficulties it's found itself in with this product.

You are absolutely wrong. HE cares!

And, for your information, 'Freedom' and 'Privacy' is also paid for with a $160.00 payment to the Pine Group, for the PinePhone.
