Even with the heavier Spectre/Meltdown mitigations, the Core i9 7980XE system was still faster for running Node.js than the Threadripper 2990WX with any of the tested kernels.

The TTSIOD renderer is one of the cases where the Spectre/Meltdown mitigations on Linux 4.20 put the Core i9 7980XE slowed down enough that the Threadripper 2990WX was within striking distance.

The timed compilation performance didn't change all that much.

The Hackbench Linux kernel scheduler benchmark was running slower on Linux 4.20.

The Core i9 7980XE continued leading in PostgreSQL performance over the 32-core / 64-thread Threadripper.
