Micron Technology has been in business for 27 years, compared against Winbond's 18 years or Elpida's 6 years in existence, and with this experience comes a superior level of manufacturing and high-quality memory components. Unlike other memory suppliers, Crucial Technology has the advantage when it comes to choosing parts, as it is a division of Micron, and has become one of the largest OEM providers in the industry. Since last year when Crucial launched their Ballistix DDR and DDR2 modules, they have been getting much more attention from enthusiasts as these modules are designed for "computer gamers and power users seeking maximum system performance and stability at a competitive price-point". Although months ago Crucial had released their 1GHz (PC2-8000) Ballistix modules, with us today we have their Ballistix 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR2-800 PC2-6400 DDR2 modules. Unlike a majority of the other memory manufacturers who encase their modules in plastic packaging, so enthusiasts can be sure to glare at their fancy heatspreaders, Crucial discretely packages their Ballistix modules inside of a small cardboard container. Opening the container we found the memory module installation guide, free software offer, and the 2 x 512MB DDR2 modules, which were confined inside individual anti-static bags. For those of you not interested in two 512MB modules, Crucial also offers a single 512MB stick of DDR2-800 (BL6464AA804) along with a 1GB module (BL12864AA804), and finally a 2 x 1GB set (BL2KIT12864AA804). As expected, everything arrived in pristine condition.
