If Wayland was such a good specification, xorg would be past for years.
Why Windows and Mac do not have these stupid issues..?

Because those aren't open platforms where a bunch of stuff is meant to just work together. You don't get choice of window managers and compositors on Windows and Mac. The entire reason that Wayland exists is so that, no matter the compositor you use, applications have a common way (a protocol) to communicate with them. If everything on Linux used Gnome, for example, then software would just be written for it.

Also one protocol being better than the previous one doesn't mean that the process of transitioning software from one to other suddenly disappears.

I just don't get the point of Asahi Linux, other than as a working resume type project that the developers can show to a prospective employer as to why they should be hired.

Anyone desiring to run any Linux based distro, or even Windows, on M powered Macs completely misses the point of Apple's new chips.

From the point of view of pure CPU and GPU performance, they are not that great, both AMD's and intel's processors with iGPUs are capable of outperforming them, with the added benefit of being cheaper, more accessible and well supported by Linux and Windows.

The big advantage of the Apple M chips lies within the hardware media accelerators, that allow these processors to handle 8k ProRes and ProRes RAW in hardware, and the only application that currently supports ProRes RAW is Final Cut Pro.

So until the day Apple decides to release FC Pro for Linux and the day they open up the documentation to both ProRes RAW and the hardware accelerator within the M chips, then spending big bucks to buy an Apple computer just to install Linux on it is a complete waste of time and money because for a fraction of the cost I can buy either and AMD or Intel chip, install Linux on that and smoke Asahi on Mac.

Maybe they named this Asahi Linux because you have to be drunk to think it's a good idea.

Linux users to Asahi Linux: Please stop working for free for Apple, a despicable corporation hostile to OpenSource and its own app store developers.

There's a pretty sizable gap between the M2 Max's GPU and an Intel iGPU. Benchmarks put it at around RX 6700s's performance.

You really can't speak for Linux users though. Also they're not working for Apple, they're just doing what the want.

From Red Hat's RHEL-9 release notes:

                "X.org Server is now deprecated

The X.org display server is deprecated, and will be removed in a future major RHEL release. The default desktop session is now the Wayland session in most cases. (...)"

If the most used paid enterprise distribution has deprecated and announced that will remove X.org in future releases (RHEL10 in 2025?), what can one expect from Asahi that are working on cutting edge technology. Marcan & team are correct suggesting moving away from X.org for Asahi's use case, but the recommendation is for general users also. If you've an use case that is not supported by Wayland then continue with X.org, but don't expect others to work for you for free (nor paying in the case of RHEL).

Xorg has problems but Wayland has more. They're different problems but ultimately a bigger impediment to serious desktop usage.

This will eventually change, but until it does it's premature to bullhorn for Wayland and passive aggressively attack people who don't want to complicate their daily lives.

OK, so which of these has better performance after being used for 8 hours unplugged?

(Hint: It's the cheaper one )

Apple’s chips are MUCH more power efficient than the AMD and especially intel counterparts. AMD’s newest Ryzen Mobile 7000s series might finally come close or outpace the nearly one year old chips at the same power efficiency. The 4 nanometer structure made the most difference until now but there is no denying that Apple’s chip design is excellent.
Nach den Ryzen 7040HS stellt AMD die sparsameren Ryzen 7040U vor. Mit Phoenix-APU gibt es ebenso Zen 4 und die leistungsstärkste iGPU.
