Is there anyway how this can help to reverse engineer the dx api?

p.s.: Daniel Vetter is asking the right Questions in the kml and Sasha Levins (MS) reply

"This support will also require Windows WDDMv2.9 graphics drivers."

This means it only works on WSL and not on actual Linux hosts. So, what's the point? If you are running on Windows anyway, then why not simply run that DX app natively on Windows? Or is it just a way to allow devs to develop Windows apps using Posix standards?

The main use case is for many Machine Learning libraries that are Linux-only to be accessible on Windows hosts.

The standard is Vulkan and LibreOffice. D3D12, MS-office and DotNet are futile attempts. You should feel sorry for them and nothing else.

"It's a new Microsoft, they have changed so much, look they they extend and embrace open source now!"

More like. Linux gaming now requires a license for Microsoft Windows.

All you can see here is if Microsoft wanted DX12 to be on Linux full and free, it would be. It already compiles. They don't, they want to challenge Vulkan/Proton. New leaf, hardly. This is the same old playbook from the same old company.. maybe Balmer is doing consulting.

The main focus is (currently) compute and MI.

Daniel Vetter (Intel) gave the 'right' answer and asked the 'right' questions.
(NO OSS userland (currently).) => no kernel driver (Maybe 'accel'.)

                https://lists.freedesktop.org/archiv...ay/266642.html

Microsoft's Sasha Levin answered OSS DX12 Gallium driver underway by Collabora.

Let's see and observe what's coming out and maybe if they still stands.

There was not much to extinguish to begin with though.
                  have to agree.
Also RH nuked the fledgling life out of it long before M$ turned to "open source"

Either you're a shill or worse naive.

Microsoft doesn't change, they only adapt tactics, Microsoft only care about Microsoft and Microsoft only (every arm of the corporation) If they do something that might seem beneficial for anyone not Microsoft is just a side effect of something Microsoft needs for its own selfish reasons.

Listen, and understand. Microsoft is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, shame or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until every single Microsoft competitor is dead.
