You haven't used it since Windows Vista then. Compared to the W7 counterpart Linux major DE's panels and desktops are horrible buggy unstable mess. But...

I'd try and limit the things that the BASIC components do. Thus at least the panel and the main menu have to be implemented as robust sound apps not on...
