For the rather demanding OpenGL 3.x GpuTest demos, the Catalyst driver was certainly the best performer. The R600 Gallium3D driver also failed to work with the TessMark and GiMark tests that had worked fine on Catalyst.

Additional benchmarks from the Radeon HD 5000 series with the latest open-source Linux 3.11 + Mesa 9.3-devel Git code against AMD's Catalyst driver can be found on OpenBenchmarking.org via 1308224-SO-RADEONHD557. With that said, you can compare your system's performance to today's Radeon OpenGL benchmarks by simply running phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1308224-SO-RADEONHD557.
