Radeon HD 5000 Series Gallium3D Performance vs. Catalyst
Reaction Quake 3 has always been a game that has struggled for frames on the R600 Gallium3D driver. While optimizations have been made, it still performs poorly against Catalyst and other Linux GPU drivers. The Radeon HD 5770/5830 performance on Radeon Gallium3D was roughly half that of the Catalyst driver.
The Unvanquished game's performance with its GL3 renderer was more than 60% the speed of Catalyst when using the open-source Radeon Linux driver.
