The file-system results from this HDD-based system with Intel Core i7 processor pretty much repeats trends shown in past Phoronix articles for file-system performance. With a modern Linux kernel, the default EXT4 file-system continues to perform very well while the next-generation Btrfs file-system only was the fastest file-system in a few of the tests. While Btrfs wasn't the fastest overall, it has the most advanced feature-set. Lastly, XFS continues to do very well and remains competitive with EXT4 and Btrfs while winning several file-system tests.
