Linux 3.13 Kernel HDD File-System Benchmarks

All three file-systems regressed in Compile Bench under the Linux 3.13 kernel from the Western Digital VelociRaptor 150GB hard drive. EXT4 was the fastest file-system though for this test on both kernels tested from Ubuntu Linux.

Lastly, with PostMark, all three file-systems again regressed under the Linux 3.13 kernel compared to Linux 3.12.

While there are some file-system (or more broadly, the kernel's block layer) performance regressions on the Linux 3.13 kernel, the hard drive performance seemed to be less impacted than the solid-state drive results. As some Phoronix readers pointed out in the comments to the 3.13 SSD testing, it's possible the performance regressions may be related to the multi-queue block layer merge, but our Linux 3.13 testing and investigation is still ongoing at Phoronix.
