Banshee Music Player Gets Amazon MP3 Support

From within the Banshee player, users can browse, search, preview, purchase, and download music from the Amazon MP3 store. Amazon has long provided a standalone Linux client for downloading purchased MP3 files via their web-store, but now Banshee is integrating its own capabilities. Banshee also supports loading the Amazon MP3 AMZ files for downloading audio that was purchased from within a web-browser session. The web-based Amazon rendering within Banshee is being done using WebKit.
Banshee 1.7.3 has also gained a new Miro Podcast Directory extension for discovering/streaming/subscribing to podcasts using the Miro service. Another extension making its way into Banshee is to fix music meta-data in bulk.
Other improvements to Banshee 1.7.3 include new visual separators, item counts being culturally formatted, improved downloading and visual refreshing of cover art, improving the artwork hover effect, and new developer API features. There's also a handful of bug-fixes.
Download information and other details on Banshee 1.7.3 is available from the project's web-site at Banshee.fm.
For those that don't want to use Banshee to download Amazon MP3 files or prefer to keep a Mono-free system, Amazon music can already be downloaded using their aforementioned client, there is the Ubuntu One Music store that's integrated within Rhythmbox, and there's various other open-source media players with integration support into a variety of web-based music stores. When shopping at Amazon for MP3s or any products, we also ask that you use our affiliate shopping links which go to support our Internet operations by simply clicking and purchasing through the link -- there's also other ways to support Phoronix.
