        They said they found a replacement for him, and would continue releasing Kubuntu. This situation has been known about for a while and was exactly why everyone was questioning that.

          @Master5000: you clearly never really tried to use KDE to say such an insanity. Every time I tried to start from an Ubuntu and install KDE it was a mess. Couldn't explain why because I lack even the basic knowledge of the distribution construction, but the fact remained the same throughout the releases: Ubuntu just doesn't know how to properly clean and replace Unity parts with KDE, so you get a horrendous unstable mix.

          That's exactly why Kubuntu existed and was (and is still) necessary: while it was difficult to use in the first iterations, its team managed to grow it into a full-fledged, simple to install/use and very stable distribution, keeping all the goodness of being Debian-based.

          Sure, you could go OpenSuse or Fedora, but IIRC, they are rpm-based (among other differences).
          If Kubuntu dies, it will be a net loss for the Open Source community.
