AMD Catalyst: Ubuntu 12.10 vs. Windows 7
When kicking the testing off with the once-popular Nexuiz game, Microsoft Windows 7 Professional was noticeably faster than the two Linux configurations at both 1920 x 1080 and 2560 x 1600 resolutions. Windows 7 delivered up to 40% higher frame-rates than Ubuntu Linux during this testing process. To some surprise, the KDE desktop version was slower for the Radeon HD 6870 graphics card than the Unity desktop with Compiz.
For OpenArena at 1280 x 1024 and 1920 x 1080 resolutions, Windows 7 was also much faster than the two Ubuntu 12.10 configurations. Windows 7 with the Catalyst driver was 61% faster than Linux when using the same hardware.
