Linux 2.6.30-rc7 Kernel Released

For those around the computer this holiday weekend in the United States, Linus Torvalds has announced the seventh release candidate for the Linux 2.6.30 kernel.

Linux 2.6.30-rc7 kernel brings a late driver to the kernel for the Cisco PCI-Express FCoE HBA SCSI adapter and besides that the rest of the fixes are small changes. The Linux 2.6.30-rc7 kernel release announcement can be read at LKML.org.

While the Linux 2.6.31 cycle is nearing, it is anticipated that there will be a Linux 2.6.30-rc8 kernel before going gold -- likely in the first week of June. The Linux 2.6.30 kernel introduces the NILFS2 file-system, Fastboot support, DRM for the ATI R600/700 graphics processors, LZMA/BZIP2 kernel image compression, support for the Microblaze architecture, and various other new features.
