Right now, ubuntu 12.04 performs like crap with nvidia. Compiz and Unity is crap.

Ubuntu 12.04 runs top noth performance, if you ditch Unity and Compiz, and use gnome classic without effects.

At least, with windows, I don?t have to disable anything to achieve maximum performance.

That?s the state of linux right now, that i seriously hope that change.

But in their blog, they state the benchmarks were done in ubunt 12.04 32bit.

Also, they are targeting steam client to ubuntu.

Maybe the Steam Client somehow disables Compiz and Unity and re-enable them after you exit game ?!?

I don't recall it being bad.. I remember playing Enemy Territory on Woody with no problems... I'm pretty sure I was using blob graphics drivers though.
Linux really isn't bad for gaming, it's just that the open graphics drivers are lagging too far behind current generation games.. I think that's just a matter of manpower.. As somebody else said, if Linux can get a solid 5 FPS advantage over Windows on the latest games, then a *LOT* of people will switch from Windows.

I want to buy an AMD Trinity ultrabook, but the AMD 7000 series GPU support in Linux is scary bad..

Go ahead! Trinity has 6900 class gpu.

He's not working for Valve, but he knows his stuff. He *should* work for Valve though.
