To reiterate what other people said, I've been using the GIMP 3.0 pre-release flatpak for over a year. It rarely crashes; sometimes I get a dialogue saying something failed but the program continues to work. I've only filed a handful of bugs. It seems to have lots of plug-ins built in already.
