Stop lying. Darwin has nothing to do with FreeBSD, much less being a fork of freebsd. What next, Solaris is a fork of FreeBSD? Windows is a fork of FreeBSD?

Is that little chart your argument? Do you actually know anything about what you are talking about? NeXTSTEP was made from 4.4BSD and Mach. Later they replaced the Mach 2.5 bits with OSF Mach and the 4.4BSD bits with FreeBSD code.

You have no clue what you are talking about.

I've actually seen the Darwin code with my own eyes. BECAUSE I KNOW HOW TO GOOGLE THINGS. Stop lying. Stop being deliberately insolent.

Also, while SwitchOS uses some FreeBSD code, the SwitchOS kernel itself is an in-house microkernel called Horizon and is largely based on the 3DS kernel. It's not unix-like at all.
Pretty much everything: number of deployments, software available (proprietary and open source), features available, and more.

Add up all the PS3s, PS4s, Switches, & iOS/OSX systems in deployment and that will dwarf all the Linux installs out there even if we're including Android.

Compare native Linux games to native games made for consoles and who has more games, BSD or Linux?

Does Linux have Photoshop and lots of other proprietary software developed for it? Not on the level that OSX gets software.

Also, damn-near all of us here are using Proprietary Linux like Arch, Debian, Manjaro, Suse (all of them), and Ubuntu. Just want to point that out before someone starts in on how proprietary software is bad and evil.

Wow what an idiot. You said Darwin is a FORK of FreeBSD when that is clearly a lie , and anyone who knows even a little bit about the topic at hand knows this.

MINIX beats all.. And now please go moan in linux topics..

Nothing weirder than guys trying to compare their e-penises using operating systems as a base measurement.

Try to think about it from the POV of common citizen, especially women. Weirdos..

It actually is a fork of FreeBSD, in that they took FreeBSD code and now develop it separately and occasionally pull in bits here and there from upstream. Its practically the definition of a fork.

You aren't worth arguing with. I'll just state the facts and let you writhe around.

It's exactly opposite. It's Mach kernel and few parts from FreeBSD like network stack, system functions and VFS.

There's a lot more to the system than the kernel. This isn't Linux. Darwin isn't just a kernel. All the utilities, much of the C library, other support libraries come from FreeBSD. The kernel yes has lots of Mach in it but without the BSD components it would be non functional. Mach was only ever a kernel, does not contribute to any of the other parts of the system. The driver model is also unique to Apple and didn't come from BSD or Mach.

Try running those games and Photoshop on FreeBSD. Just because Sony and Apple took some of the BSD licensed code it doesn't mean it's a BSD system. macOS doesn't even use the FreeBSD kernel. If you want to play such game don't forget about dozens of IoT devices, TVs and so on running the Linux kernel. BSD is just a whore everyone can use and leave it in the morning.

This one is just too much even if you're smoking.

There's also userspace from NetBSD. However, how much BSD is in macOS? 5%? Btw. Linux destroys macOS by a large margin when comes to desktop and server market share.
