Phoronix: Mesa's Radeon R600 Gallium3D Driver Now Has NIR Support Under Review

Similar to the trend with other Mesa drivers, the Radeon R600g driver for supporting Radeon HD 2000 through Radeon HD 6000 series graphics cards has been seeing experimental work to introduce a NIR back-end for this modern intermediate representation. That R600 NIR support now has a merge request open meaning it could possibly land still for Mesa 20.0...

Sweet. Hopefully this gets merged, so it can be developed in-tree. Big thumbs up to Gert for this work

Wouldn't that more or less make r600 support DONE?

That makes it five of us cheering for Gert's work on R600! I can't wait to see it surpass the Windows driver in every regard possible.

I hope so... Although I am just now seeing https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pa...penGL-4.5-Hits which looks like what I've been hoping for... I thought for sure my HD5770 would be supported but this looks like HD5800 is the minimum.

Big thumbs up to Gert for this work.

Hopefully they can make NIR the default for the Radeon R600g driver when Mesa 20.0 stable gets released.

Mesa 20.0 is shaping up as a big NIR release or possibly even THE biggest NIR release.

Are there plans to remove non-NIR stuff?
