I finally went for a R7 360, and by that, settled for low-cost, low-power, with decent 3D performance.

Also, as Bonaire is already supported, using the free stack should be possible.

So I'll have to patch current sources on my Debian system, I'll open another thread for that.

      Just put the card in.

Now that was a humbling experience.

It could ofcourse be DOA, but this was what happened (DVI connector connected to 1st card in all cases).

      1) my current nvidia card as 1st, R7 360 as 2nd card -> no video
      2) R7 360 as only card -> no video
      3) nvidia as only card -> video again

I have a BIOS based system.

It's a MSI R7 360, could it be UEFI only ? There doesn't seem to be a switch for setting it to legacy.

Ok, tried some things (reset CMOS etc etc), still no signal.

So let's put it another way.

Should these new videocards be able to run in a legacy BIOS system ?

I have not heard of anything would would *stop* them from working? What do the logs say?

I've sent the MSI card back, my supplier will investigate.

Strange thing is the fan was working, but no output, beeps or anything, system didn't start also.

Seeing other videocards that have a UEFI/legacy hardware switch, I thought this could be related.

I now ordered the Sapphire R7 360, which has this hardware switch (and a dual VGA BIOS), just to be sure.

Just got a reply from my supplier.
They tested the MSI card, and have no signal either, so I guess it was DOA.

The Sapphire card will arrive tomorrow.

Just as the Linux Rx 300 series Catalyst driver.
I guess I'll first use the closed driver stack.

As for using this card with the free stack in Debian:

              * patch the R7 360 pciid in radeon kernel module (using same options as 260 / 77xx - Bonaire), recompile, install
              * get firmware files for R7 360, install
              * eventually patch xorg driver, Mesa etc., recompile, install
              * automate it, so it can be redone after updates

Not sure yet about the whole architecture, but does this seem like a good plan ?

The pci ids are already in the driver.

The PCI-ID of Tobago PRO/R7 360 seems to be 0x665f.

Current kernelversion in Debian seems to be 3.16.7-ckt11-1 on my Debian Jessie (stable) system.
Can't find the PCI-ID anywhere in these sources, yet.

Haven't got the card yet (this afternoon), but I'll check which PCI ID it reports.

                    As expected.

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Device [1002:665f] (rev 81) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: PC Partner Limited / Sapphire Technology Device [174b:e258]

Xorg radeon tries to load, then unloads, running VESA atm.

Waiting for new Catalyst to go online.

The ID was added in May so you'll need a fairly recent X driver:
