Reason distributions don't use latest kernel and X.org Server is sometimes because AMD don't support it yet.
So AMD is holding back progress on Linux by being slow to support latest kernels and X.
After a discussion on the Slackware forum it is now official, Slackware will revert back from Xserver 1.14 to 1.13 for the upcoming Slackware 14.1, just because the Slackware team doesn't want to release a version that will not be able to run with AMD's proprietary drivers.

Thank you AMD, you have slowed down Slackware's development.

I hate being stuck on an old version of the distro that I use :

Am I right to assume that this one does not support xorg-server 1.14? If so, does that mean we have to wait for Ubuntu 13.10 to get support for that?

The last official driver is now 3 month old and there are plenty of
bugs waiting to be fixed despite the (very welcome) beta releases.

    Something else related to this:

AMD has opened a new forum ( http://devgurus.amd.com/community/steam-linux ) for those of you using Linux AMD graphics drivers. The purpose of the AMD forum is to provide a direct line to AMD for feedback on their graphics drivers. Currently before you can post you will need to create a new AMD forum account and request access to the forum. Currently, the forum is private but that will change to public very soon.

In case you are wondering, we will continue monitoring this forum for AMD-related issues with Steam for Linux.
    Thanks!

    (scratches head)

Are you maybe quoting text from Kano's post but without indicating that it's a quote ?
If you click the links I posted, you can see, who said that Bridgman told him to register there.

I did not want to copy the entire topic, so I picked one line from the link I posted.
    Sorry for the confusion.

Both those links are not to topics I started.
It's about people asking why amd is not responding.

In my case it was Croteam, who told me to report the bug, on that forum.

So I did, and have not received any reply in over a month now.
